Kuala Belait – A fatal road accident yesterday afternoon caused traffic snarl along the Sungai Liang road in the Belait District. Road users going to and from Kuala Belait to visit their relatives for the Hari Raya celebration were caught for over two to three hours in a long line or vehicles.
Another minor accident exacerbated the situation.
According to the police, the fatal accident that happened about 12.15pm claimed the life of a 41-year-old Indonesian man who was heading to Sungai Liang from Belait.
The accident took place at Sungai Lalit, Sungai Liang-Lumut and involved another four-wheel drive carrying eight people including the driver and three children. Fortunately, they escaped unscathed. They were on their way to the Third Battalion camp in Lumut from Brunei-Muara for the festivity.
The cause of the accident is under police investigation.
Ten police personnel from the Sungai Liang and Seria Police Station, as well as the Emergency Response Squad were deployed to control the slow moving traffic and attend to another minor.
Collision between two vehicles, which happened close by at Jalan Tunggulian Sungai Liang about 3pm. No casualties or injuries were reported.
According to the police, construction signs and cones placed along the road also attributed to the traffic hold-up.
And another crash was also reported along the Seria-Anduki bypass about 6pm in the evening yesterday leading to further traffic congestion. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
